As promised in my previous blog I will be telling you all about my latest holiday in which I traveled to Munich, Prague, Budapest, Vienna and Salzburg.
First up, Munich, home of the Oktoberfest and what a city!
My first impression of Germany was unfortunately not the greatest as my flight was delayed in Johannesburg, South Africa due to “technical faults” and of course this resulted in me missing my connecting flight to Munich from Frankfurt. But when I travel I am one of those chilled people and nothing and I mean nothing bothers me, for me it’s all part of the experience. Anyway, the airline sorted it out and I was promptly booked on a later flight. No worries!
Arriving in Munich was quite a shock to my system, I went from 30 degree Celsius Spring weather to a delightful 11 degrees in Munich! I must say I didn’t even feel it though as I was running through the airport only to meet the smiling face of Dean, the Trafalgar travel director. He doesn’t know it but he was a sight for sore (and tired) eyes and I really got the feeling that my adventure was finally about to start. OK, sorry, I digress but it’s really a great feeling to be met at the airport with a good welcome and be transferred to your hotel without a worry in the world. World class service!
Munich is such a beautiful city with a strong beer culture. I really loved the food and beer and enjoyed the visit tremendously.

I also had the privilege of seeing/hearing/feeling the mighty Rathaus-Glockenspiel chime in Marienplatz – 12 minutes of awe! It is actually hand wound and dates to 1908 and re-enacts two stories from the 16th Century to masses of tourists. It is a must do/see when in Munich.

As I mentioned it was cold, 11 degrees but I hardly noticed.

Later that evening we went to the word famous Hofbrauhaus for a little beer.
A stein of beer, that’s one liter of liquid deliciousness!
The place is rowdy, loud with music blaring, people talking and also the most fun. The one rule is that you have to be seated to be served and I just plonked myself anywhere with a bunch of strangers as I just absolutely had to have a beer in this famous beer hall. It was so much fun!

I also made it to the jaw-droppingly incredible Oktoberfest 2014 – what an experience!

The food was also delicious such as this wonderful Munich Schnitzel which I enjoyed on my last day with some Paulaner beer on the side.

We also made a day trip to Nurnberg further north of Munich, it was unfortunately pouring down on the day I visited but it was still a gorgeous town and the rain didn’t bother me at all. Unfortunately I couldn’t take too many photos though.

Munich is a great city and easy to get around. You absolutely have to, even if only once in your lifetime, visit the Oktoberfest. It’s great fun and such a great laugh as just about everyone struggles to walk, can’t imagine why?! 😉 If you love beer, it’s a must do city!
